Jim Baldwin, the President/CEO of BARC, noted “the Nestlé Dreyer’s efforts have allowed us to provide gainful employment for over two dozen developmentally disabled individuals. Here, recycling is not simply about financial benefit and environmental impact – it’s about providing opportunities.”
BARC set up the year-old program in partnership with Complete Recycling, a recycling firm with ties to the non-profit. Complete Recycling, in turn, had been first introduced to BARC by Boxsmart, an important channel partner to the effort.
Nearly 400 people attended today’s celebratory event, including employees of Bakersfield ARC (BARC), Nestlé Dreyer’s, Complete Recycling and local dignitaries.
In recognition of the event, Romeo Agbalog, a representative from Senator Jean Fuller’s office, presented a certificate acknowledging that the Bakersfield City Council has designated today (July 27) as “BARC Day.” Nestlé Dreyer’s and Complete Recycling donated proceeds to the event to have pizza and Nestlé Dreyer’s ice cream served, and all participants received t-shirts in honor of the celebration. Melvin Hayes, a dedicated employee of Nestlé Dreyer’s with perfect attendance, was recognized with an exceptional service award for his 22 years of commitment to the company.
The recycling program, run through BARC’s facility, has been a signature success for Nestlé Dreyer’s. The Bakersfield plant is taking a lead role in the nationwide corporate effort to achieve zero waste.
Greg Clark, EHS Manager at Nestlé Dreyer’s, noted the BARC partnership exemplifies corporate social responsibility. “With BARC and Complete Recycling, we provide valuable work for our local community while serving the interests of our corporate stakeholders,” says Clark.
Complete Recycling’s General Manager Kevin Flynn echoed Clark’s assessment. “We are grateful for the opportunity to help facilitate this unique partnership. Today’s celebration recognizes the importance of protecting the environment as well as giving back to the community.”
